I love a second chance romance and I loved the drama in this one but it was hard to keep all the characters straight. Also it didn’t pick up for me until about halfway but I very much enjoyed it

EN: New month, new book – with another travel to England's Recency Era. On March 1st, I decided to make acquaintance with "Persuasion" (1817), by Jane Austen.

This is the story of Anne Elliott – a 27-year-old woman whose family concedes to rent their house to an admiral to avoid sinking in debt. The admiral's brother-in-law – Captain Wentworth – had been engaged to Anne eight years prior, but the relationship ended as she was persuased to do so by friends and family. With this new meeting, we're left to explore what bridges will Anne build to connect her inner life and outer influences.

This book became my favorite Austen's work. Compared with previous novels, it had a softer sense of wit and a greater focus on the internal conflicts of its protagonist, retaining her famous acuity and social criticism. Besides, I saw Anne Elliott as a perfect "introvert's heroine" – her journey is one of developing assertiveness, self-confidence and independence. Also, this book might've just found me at the ideal time for me to relish in it.

I did not enjoy this one as much as the others, such as Emma. Although it was well written, it could very well have been my mind set at the time.

It’s such a sweet story. I love Anne and the quiet romance that lives in her soul. I enjoy the pompous follies of Sir Walter, Elizabeth, and Mary. I absolutely adore Admiral and Mrs. Croft and I think they win the Cutest Couple award for all of Austen’s books.

The only thing I don’t like is at the very end when Anne says she was right to submit to Lady Russell the first time. Boo. Hiss. I think one of Jane Austen’s brothers must have put that in there after their sister died. It’s so out of character for spunky Jane.
