Loved this book!! A great story about coming of age and independence!!! Another great YA text that I can’t wait to share with my students.

i know this book has a lot of Newbery buzz....but I was bored. I kept waiting for something to happen. I know Jinny matures, I know that things the island is beautiful and strange and mysterious BUT THEY NEVER TELL YOU WHY!? and it's annoying. I heard rumor that there may be a sequel but I don't think I will read through it.

A very interesting premise. This book would have MANY opportunities for classroom discussion. Many questions are answered, many are not, allowing the reader to imagine what would happen in this world of the island.

This book captured my attention in the first few pages. It’s full of mystery and wonder and would be great for middle school to any adult. I couldn’t put it down because I needed to know what the island and characters would bring next. There are parts that are frustrating, but it’s definitely one of the main points of the book. No spoilers, but the ending was not what I expected. It left me wanting more. Will be going into my classroom library.

This was a very heartwarming, beautiful book. The ending wasn't what I was looking for but it was a beautiful, yet sad, ending. I would love to find out what happens to Jinny and Loo. But I love this story either way.

I was hooked on this book from page one but it turns out to be disappointing. I understand the rhetoric and reflective nature of the book but it felt like a whole lot of build up for no real conclusion or climax. This story definitely had a lot of potential.

This was a really interesting concept for a book and I will definitely want my kids to read it. The main character got very frustrating at the end of the book because she couldn’t let go and leave! That was the whole point so the author did a great job.

Left way too many questions unanswered for me. While it’ll lead to some good discussions, the author could’ve gone further.
