Such a fabulous Middlegrade book! Love the message here. And why it’s so important to educate and stay vigilant to signs of neglect and or abuse. The representation in this is fabulously done. The subject matter is appropriately handled which I appreciated. I could easily recommend this to a younger reader and I think it would be fascinating for them as well as would spark good discussion topics! Highly recommend.

Incredibly moving story with such compelling characters. My only issue is that it was so short. Could have listened to another 10 hours of this book. I also find it strange that a male voice is reading the story as Jam is trans but I get why it’s that way. Pet would have been less effective in a different voice.

Post-apocalypse - creatures from other dimensions - autistic trans Black MC - are humans the real monsters after all?  And yet…  an overall sweetness and hope.  “PET” by Akwaeke Amezi is a #PrideSFF #book like no other.  It will stay with you for a long time after closing the cover.  Definitely critical reading.  (Check the TWs first)
