It's very clearly an adult comic, although volume 2 is more explicit then volume 1. Also, the decorations in the school were strange - why were there so many erotic naked statues? I do like the steampunk 1800s England art, the bold lines and dramatic colours.

I enjoyed the satire in between the chapters - the author clearly knows the premise is ridiculous and makes fun of its own characters.

Issue #2 is so much weirder than Issue #1 - It's like Moore stopped giving all fucks now that he knows it's going to sell and really leaned into the tropes.

This was a reread of the first two volumes. Just as fun the second time around. Great for literary trainspotters to see how many of the allusions you can pick up.

I think I’m going to have to give up on Alan Moore. Given what everyone seems to say about his politics, I really expected to love his work, but it’s the exact opposite. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen didn’t satirise colonial violence so much as replicate it to a pornographic extent, with no consideration or care given to the subjects harmed. It wasn’t revamping old stories, just taking their characters and changing any actually progressive elements of their plot into a cynical quasi-Victorian mess. War of the Worlds ends with the idea that Britain is not all powerful and that the only reason no one has successfully invaded it in modern times is pure luck. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen warps that into a secret conspiracy of a British government that easily wipes out the invaders with a bioweapon, and throws some slurs in there to boot. What does that say? How does that improve the story?

The one thing I did like was the panels of non-English dialogue left untranslated. It hinted towards the idea that this is only one side of a story, but in my opinion that idea stayed practically undeveloped, and certainly didn’t justify the ahistorical torture porn of the rest of it.

Finished the first story in this collection (I believe it's the first two?). The art is cool but I don't feel a strong desire to pick it back up. Maybe one day!
