3.75

Small spoilers about the main character development, but if you are reading this you can probably read the book in under five minutes L

This is a children’s book about being different, the joy of it and also how people in the world will judge us. While the word choice and flow can improve, Dolly encapsulates what we believe about ourselves, and what others say to us is a choice. We chose the native.

I gave it a 3.75 because when Dolly wrote about Joseph’s coat parallel, it doesn’t mean “luck”, it just means the birthright. I also feel at the end of the story, the main character tells her classmates about why her cost is worth more doesn’t make sense to me because it is only worth more to her, not necessarily all her classmates. This may make a child who listens to it enforce their beliefs on others.

Of course, as always read it for yourself before reading it to a child.

I like that she made her song into a book! It works really well. I listened to her read it out loud on YouTube, which was extra nice :)

Dolly Parton's "Goodnight with Dolly" YouTube videos are so soothing and I think it's so cool when she sings! https://donate.imaginationlibrary.com/goodnight-with-dolly/

Coat of Many Colors is a sweet story and I love the cozy illustrations.

This is a children’s picture book about a young girl and her cherished coat of many colours which her mother sews together with rags when they are not able to afford a coat for the girl. Many years later, it is still the girl’s most cherished possession.

It is very admirable how she was that understanding and considerate even as a child.

A quick and beautiful adaption of the hit song from the one and only, Dolly Parton! Would recommend to any parent wanting to teach their kid about love and acceptance.
