Garnet Christie’s debut novel Last is an enemies to lovers, slow burn romance. It’s well-written with an unexpected twist. Bianca is a bestselling romance author who hasn’t released a book in over three years. In the unlikeliest of circumstances she catches the breathtaking Brett in a compromising position. This begins their journey as rivals. After a series of confrontations and a hasty departure, Bianca and Brett’s give into the intense chemistry they have and it’s explosive! Their intense chemistry soon changes into a romantic relationship and the past rears its head bringing troublesome times.

The undeniable attraction between Bianca and Brett was evident in all their interactions. Their banter, witty comebacks, and lashing remarks showed how stubborn the two are. As Bianca and Brett put the conflict aside they realized how similar they are and how their past has shaped their present. Both of their goals are driven by revenge and together they work to overcome the scars of their past. Their relationship is one of mutual healing, overcoming their pasts, and finding something that lasts.I really enjoyed Bianca’s friendship with Cora and Lizzie. The three of them are like a little family and so different from each other. I’m looking forward to Lizzie’s book.

Garnet Christie has written a captivating book with an interesting beginning. Garnet Christie’s writing has the ability to make you feel and many moments in this book made me cry. These characters are relatable, flawed, and that’s partially what I liked about them.

Overall, I REALLY enjoyed this book, but there were some parts that made me cringe. I wasn’t a fan of how Bianca and Brett had multiple public confrontations nor of the stubbornness of Bianca’s character occasionally. I understand why the author included Bianca’s stubbornness as part of the book, but I didn’t like it.

This was an amazing enemies to lovers/hate to love romance I really enjoyed. Enemies to lovers romances are my favorite and this one fits the trope to a T.

Rating: 4/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Despite the stars, I liked this book. It was enjoyable and the thought behind the story was great.

It just was a bit overhyped and didn’t deliver. I really liked the ending and I think I’ll consider reading more from the author in the future.

I read worse, really worse because this one I finished it. At this level we cannot talk about mixed feelings, no this book was torture and at the same time I could not let go. For the first time in my life I took notes while reading a romance book.

In short, nothing is going well but especially because of Bianca: drama queen with a big tendency to slut-shaming. Probably one of the worst female characters I have read.

But the worst of the worst is not Bianca, the ingenuous migraine sufferer, misunderstood with an alcoholic father, it is the constant rape culture in this book (especially at the end).
SpoilerWe are in 2021 and the end of an intrigue is a woman who lied about her rape.

What about Brett? He's a good guy who loves sex and fell in love with a girl who because of the author and some damn stereotype didn't know what she wanted because she had a difficult breakup.

Good and two stars because the author does not know how to write modern characters but on the other hand super hot sex scenes as it should be.

ARC received from the author. Voluntarily reviewing and all opinions are objective and my own.

What a fantastic debut book! It’s fun, angsty, well-written--everything I want in a contemporary romance, and everything I LOVE to see in an author’s first book.

This author’s strength is in her characters. Bianca has so much going on, but she’s constantly pushing through. She’s an enjoyable character who is very realistic about what she expects from life. Brett is designed to be a d**k, but really, my alphahole-loving heart enjoyed him. I loved everything Brett is and definitely their interactions. Lastly, there’s a very strong friend group element. These characters care about one another and it’s obvious in nearly every page.
Last is very steamy! If you like sexy scenes, definitely check this book out! Even includes ice cubes…

So looking forward to Saber and Lizzie’s book!

When @authorgarnetchristie described Brett as an alphahole, she wasn’t joking.

I didn’t like Brett during the first part of the novel. He was rude, abrasive, mean and just plain nasty to the FMC, Bianca.

Bit by bit he won me over - which is no small feet considering that Last was written exclusively on Bianca’s POV.

Romance author, Bianca, has left over scars from a verbally abusive father who made herself and her mother feel less than nothing. For her Mum, the consequences of his behaviour ended tragically.

Bianca has been left to feel worthless and unloveable.

When a new man comes to their small town, they instantly clash. A love hate relationship forms before the former wins over and they give into their desires.

Can Brett convince her that she’s worthy of love and that their passion will last? Or will it end as tragically as it did for her Mum?

Like I said, Brett really had to work to win me over. But in the end, he turned into a loving, caring and misunderstood guy. To the point where at the end I wanted to slap Bianca upside the head

Real and raw

I love that this story is a hard one. Not everyone is in a good place with themselves when they find someone. Highlighting how Bianca was self sabotaging thinking she was protecting herself is so accurate for how a lot of people are.

Bianca & Brett had a very weird yet intriguing start to their relationship. With Bianca being a struggling romance writer who with a damaged past and Brett being a mysterious super cocky rich businessman what could go wrong? Bianca discovers a secret that Brett would give anything to be kept quiet. Brett ends up doing nothing but threatening & intimidating Bianca into keeping her mouth shut so that Brett's business deal is not at risk. What Brett doesn't understand is that Bianca does whatever she wants & answers to no one. The sexual tension between these two is insane! You know from the moment that they lock eyes, there is some unspoken connection between the two. I will say that I felt something with their relationship was just a little off. I guess I just didn't get that WOW or SPARK factor as much as I wanted at first. Once the story picked up & they finally gave in to their feelings, I really liked seeing how they grew with each other. Although, Bianca did end up pissing me off a lot when it came to her fighting her emotions for Brett. She always thought that once his business deal was done, he would just leave town & they would be done. What happens when Brett decides he may not want to just up & leave? I do have to say that the author did an amazing job at dropping a huge PLOT BOMB that I did not see coming at all! I think that major drop in the story completely changed how I felt about Brett & his intentions with Bianca. You are going to fall in love with this world. I honestly cannot wait to learn about the other stories that are to come from this series!

I love love loved this one! And for me to say that, with the dark romance kick that I've been on, means something...

The pushing and pulling, between each other and with themselves - this was *the best* representation of a love-hate relationship I think I've ever seen. But if Bianca didn't get to the hospital, I told our dear author that I was gonna beat her (Bianca) myself
