There isn't much I can say without spoilers... but oh my gosh, this one took me for a ride. I have to say something happened at the end that I 100% did not see coming.
The expansion of the world in this sequel was incredible. The characters grew in ways that were not entirely unexpected, but I enjoyed the journey. I am unendingly drawn into this world by the complexity of the light/dark balance of every character and their complex (and often complicated) relationships with the others. The push and pull of the past vs future in this is epic.
I am a little afraid and very thrilled to see what happens in the conclusion of this trilogy (and can't believe it took me so long to finish reading it).

So this book took so much longer than it usually does for me to finish a roughly 600 page book, and that was what made reading it through a little hard. Unless you have the intention to read and finish this book in a few days, one needs to take notes to remember things. I'll make sure to keep that in mind for when it comes to refresh myself before the next book! But holy cow! This was so good! Rather than talk about it all, I just was to summarize what I liked about it. The hard core love triangle between Rielle, Audric, and Corien is awesome! Somewhere along the line I just pictured "wow so this is what ACOFAM would be like if Rhys was evil and Tamlin was a cinnamon roll" (shudders at that last thought). But that is the best way to describe it. Corien is so deliciously evil I can't help but love it. Rielle and Eliana kick so much ass in this book. They take little to no shit, they hold no qualms about killing people in order to save the ones they love, and they are such strong female leads it is just right up there to the SJM level of bad ass women roles. The one downside is that by the end Rielle starts taking some of the shit from Audric, and he just lashes out at her full force. Which seemed odd because he went from 0 to 100 really fast. And then a chapter later he is just thinking that he didn't mean it. One of the few problems with the book though is that Jessamyn's change wasn't entirely explained. It was never finalized if the change to the past changed her alligence to the Empire, and could have used a little more explanation. And on that note. THAT FRICKING TWIST AT THE END!!! SIMON NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! How could he be evil? No! You loved her! You guys have the best chemistry! DOn't make Eliana end up with Harkan! She showed more chemistry with Jessamyn than Harkan. I don't like Harkan! He's a side character! HE THOUGHT HE KNEW BETTER THAN ELIANA AND WENT AGAINST HER WISHES! SIMON COME BACK! He better have an explanation because no! Claire Legrand if Eliana ends up with Harkan I'm not doing that! Also her adoptive father is alive and an angel! And a high up admiral! AND ALSO ON SIDE WITH THE EMPIRE! LIKE NO!!!!! SIMON WHY!!!! Simon broke my heart. So it is cruel to have to wait another year for this continuation, because I need Simon to be redeemed. I have faith in Kylo Ren Simon, I have faith in you too!

This first half kind of dragged for me, but that's really because of the dual POV and the switches between them. The worldbuilding was still amping up in book two while exploring Rielle's journey in the past and Eliana's coming to power in the present. It was super enjoyable, but I still felt like it was lacking a little bit. However, if I did not cherish my hardcovers as much as I do, I would have thrown this book across the room at the end.

Where Furyborn had issues and lacked, Kingsbane made up for it with secrets, darkness, and seduction. This series almost lost me during the release of the first book and now with this edition it has won me back once more. I cannot wait to read the finale and see what is in store for the characters.
In Furyborn you meet Rielle and Eliana, two queens who were somehow connected to one another but separated over lengths of time - eventually we come to learn that Eliana is Rielle’s daughter who she sends away to save her life. The plot really drew me in on this one - the first book had a noble concept but with a lacking depth and connection. The world building is absolutely phenomenal and I feel myself living and breathing inside both worlds when flipping between the two time spans. I LOVE the angels - we see Fae in every single story in the YA belt, so this is wonderful and a nice difference and separation.
Here’s my issue - SIMON. Maybe she’s waiting to tell us more until the last book but something is very very off here and I need answers - it all happened too suddenly all at one time and needed a little more explanation or more time to properly happen... but I'm willing to forgive it with how in love with Simon I still am even after well... you know...

Estoy tan triste y enfadada... Rielle no se merece para nada todo esto, solo es una chica tío ni es un monstruo ni una santa, es una chica con actos cuestionables como cualquier puta persona y no se merece tener sobre ella la semejante presión que es mantenerse en lo que la gente considere adecuado para ser la Reina del Sol y no la de Sangre. Lleva siendo manipulada por Corien desde el puto principio, y no la culpa, para empezar porque juega con su cabeza y le hace creer cosas o le da ideas que de por si ya no tendría, y luego no para de adularla y decirle todo lo que quiere oír cuando absolutamente nadie en su círculo le da ningún tipo de amabilidad (excepto Audric), todos la odian o le tienen miedo o la adoran como a una santa y eso es mucho para lanzar encima de una chica de 19 años de la noche a la mañana. Y cuando por fin plantó cara y mandó a tomar por culo a Corien pq abrió los ojos y vio lo horrible que es, este hace la peor jugada posible y lo arruina todo. Rielle estaba en un momento malísimo, con la cabeza destrozada por la batalla de Corien y Lu (que también la lleva manipulando una temporadita, es igual de egoísta que Corien), el embarazo, la visita de Eliana (no valió para nada más que para joder un poco más las cosas, gran plan chicos), la Puerta y todas sus responsabilidades, todos los secretos que le ocultó a Audric (por culpa de Lu que es la que siempre tiró para que mintiera, acabando como acabó todo, si me dejaran a la chavala en paz ya estaba!!!!) y va y se descubre que mató a rey y a su padre y Audric se enfada con ella y claro, colapsa, lo entiendo perfectamente. Que Audric tenía todo el derecho del mundo a enfadarse, lo entiendo, fueron mentiras muy gordas una tras otra, entiendo la desconfianza y el enfado, el problema fue el momento!!!! En otro momento, cuando se calmaran las aguas podrían haber hablado las cosas y entenderse, pq él ni la odia ni la ve como un monstruo tío, es el único que la quiere incondicionalmente y que hace todo lo posible por entenderla, pero Rielle se puso a la defensiva y se fue, pq después de semanas de todo el mundo llamándola monstruo, colapsó cuándo pensó que Audric también la veía así y me pone tan triste tío. A ver que hace en el siguiente libro con Corien, espero que no se pierda y obedezca todo lo que le manden sin más...
Por otro lado, la traición de Simon????? Que cojones tío, como que no es leal a la corona roja y le es leal a los ángeles, es que no lo entiendo. Esto viene después del viaje en el tiempo?? Porque fue cuando empezaron a mencionar lo de sus ojos como el fuego, que personalmente no me dice nada, pero parece importante. A lo mejor Corien al verlo en la cabeza de Eliana en el pasado, lo posee en el presente justo cuando ella vuelve por el hilo no lo sé pero no me creo que sea un traidor desde el puto principio tío, no tiene sentido. A ver que coño hace ahora Eliana, pq podría aprovechar para intentar liberar su poder sin las forjas, pero está tan hundida con la traición y Remy capturado que pinta que de va a hundir en un pozo de depresión hasta que algo la saque de ahí. Tristísimo que se muriera Harkan y como es toda la escena, no se lo merecía yo le tenía mucho cariño, pero me alegro de que Patrik siga vivo pq necesito que se reuna con Hob por favor pobres. Que también te digo, que es de Hob y Navi, a ver si hacen algo en el siguiente libro me cago en dios. Si es que no hubo cambios por el viaje en el tiempo, o el único cambio relevante es que Jessamine se hizo mala y paró todo su plan de escape, pq ya me jodería. Y bueno, que el padre de Eliana resulta ahora que está poseído por un ángel... Es que cuantisima información en las últimas páginas no entiendo nada.
Por lo demás el libro flojillo. Siento que la historia de Rielle avanza constantemente, que ella está en constante evolución de personaje y todo lo que le pasa tiene más o menos relevancia, mientras que la de Eliana es ella siendo todo el rato terca, insoportable y desobediente y no aprendiendo nada para sí misma. A ver como se desarrolla el siguiente, pero mi predicción principal es que el profeta es Audric (o en su defecto Rielle, que soñar es gratis) y mi petición más importante es que Rielle y Eliana se encuentren en el pasado y tenga una conversación sentimental, me gustaría que Eliana pudieran entenderla un poco y perder ese odio visceral que le tiene. Y también quiero saber porque Simon odia tan salvajemente a Rielle (a parte de por lo de abrir la puerta y todo eso) cuando en el pasado la apreciaba un montón, entiendo que no la defiendas pero podías contarla a Eliana historias de como era ella contigo, pq siempre te trató genial chaval ya me jodería. Mira que Simón nunca me gustó mucho, pero ahora lo aborrezco espero que se muera menuda mierda de interés romántico para Eliana
