What an unexpected treasure. John Constantine was created as an explicitly political figure opposing the corporatist malevolence of Thatcher’s England, and then sanded down by DC into a darkly charismatic cad. Spurrier manages to revive the character’s political roots while maintaining the more empathetic DC shell in a series of bleak urban fantasy short stories.
