I haven't read any of the original Nancy Drew books and therefore can't compare this new iteration, but somehow I get the feeling they weren't so mundane and simple.

Nancy Drew is my girl I've been reading her since I was a little kid. If it's Nancy Drew my interest is peak.
So it does dismay me a little bit that this book wasn't a favourite of mine.
With how many books have been written about her however one is bound to be not my cup of tea.
I liked the concept and all of the incidents are clever out of the box ways to mess with a cruise.
Doing things like putting juice mix in the pool to make people unsettled then releasing a spider etc..
It had a lot of characters and things to cover that I feel like some things suffered for it.
The mystery fell flat because I think it had to tell us alot of things to reveal it.
Being like *wink wink* *nudge nudge* Lacey looks like she was apart of the rival ship.
It wasn't subtle which was a shame.
This one just wasn't my cup of tea.

I'm hardly the target audience, but I wanted a simple mystery book. Unfortunately, this story didn't really succeed at being that, with events mostly just happening to Nancy and every time she makes any real attempt at investigating anything, she's stopped in her tracks. It wasn't horrible, but it was very flat and even a disappointing mystery for the age range. Disappointing, alas...

Once upon a time, when I was still a little girl, I absolutely loved the Nancy Drew books. I borrowed them from the library, so I never owned one of them, but still. So when I discovered the boxset with the first 10 Nancy Drew Diaries I had to buy them. And today, years later, it was finally time to dive into the first book. It took me a few chapters to get back into it, but once the detectiving really got started I got more and more excited and had to keep on reading. I loved how this had the Nancy feel in every way and yet also clearly had a more modern vibe. And I also really enjoyed the mystery, although in this case I did catch the culprit myself before Nancy could. One day I'm gonna get really good at this. We'll see if that day has finally come once I dive into the second book!
