Thank you to the lovely people at Hachette for kindly sending me a copy for review

“Deep Down where the seaweed swish-swashes and the sea whispers stories, lived six sisters. Mermaids. Daughters of the Sea King. The sun and moonbeams reached down to stroke their golden hair, but until they came of age, none was allowed to visit the sea’s surface.” - Geraldine McCaughrean, The Little Mermaid

Geraldine McCaughrean has beautifully adapted Hans Christian Andersen’s, The Little Mermaid into a less tragic, more child-friendly and feminist version of the famous fairytale. Laura Barrett’s lovely, silhouette style illustrations and black, white and turquoise colour palette compliment the text wonderfully.

I would highly recommend The Little Mermaid for children and adults alike, particularly for lovers of the original fairytale.
