Lightness of being is a consequence of having million options to choose, in one life. That is harsh - thanks for pointing that out, dear author. Now with this lightness of being comes betrayal and love. Comes fun and suffering. We're so light, replaceable and irreplaceable at the same time.

Hated the characters in the beginning; ignorant mid-class trapped in their tiny bubble. But as I progressed, finished and sat down thinking (did I?), I am all about the characters. I see myself and people around me have bits of these modern-life characters. Definitely not a book to read at random moments, this book gets you thinking about Real things you don't want to think of (re: is going to haunt me as I iron pile of my laundry)

I will not rate this book until I am settle with this sat-down-thinking business. I wonder if I should Thank God for giving me a privilege to sat-down-thinking.

once you get past all of the weird sex that goes on it is a really good book. it is also really interesting when you look at it in the context of the events that were taking place in the Soviet Union while this book was going on.

I rarely feel like I’m not ”cultured” enough to understand the basic tenet of a book, but I genuinely took nothing away from this one. Just no idea what it was all about.

Plus it was boring.

Impeccable.

I’ve read this book a dozen times throughout my life, usually as a bastion to hold me during times of turmoil. It’s there.

I’ve been meaning to read this for 20 years but got put off by another Kundera book years ago when it got a bit too philosophical for my liking. I loved this book. I wish it could go on and on.

Edit: so good I went back to the start and read it again.
