What an incredible book! This woman had more strength and resilience as a child than you would ever think possible. She also handled delicate issues without allowing the book to become graphic or smutty. Definitely would recommend this book!

Really? Not sure I believe the >5 yo girl survives in the Columbian jungle for 5 years, but it is fascinating. The next several years of her narrative are hard, but more realistic and easier to credit as not only possible, but likely.

I wouldn't read it again, and I don't know that I'd even recommend it to anybody. Still, I liked it an average amount. The writing was pretty lousy, and it ended way too early in Marina's life, but I thought her life was interesting enough to keep reading.

Not a huge fan, Parts were definitely interesting and I wish we got more of her life as she still adjusted to “normal” civilization.

I'm not sure if I believe the story - the book starts with a 5 year old girl kidnapped and abandoned in the jungles of Central America who survives by living with a troupe of monkeys - and that may be one of the more believable parts of the story, as she later is sold into slavery and makes miraculous escape after miraculous escape. Still, even if this is the false and/or invented memories of a highly traumatized child, the story is engrossing and will be sure to fuel a good book club discussion.

This was super interesting, and I'm game to believe all of it.
