Generally, I'm not a fan of poetry. This was well-written and it made me believe that I was a character in the overall story. I gave it 3 stars because I get it. I get it because I live it. Was I expecting something different? Yes. I think that's where my disappointment lies.

There isn't much support for those who are deaf. What I do appreciate about Ilya Kaminsky is doing is conveying the world we live in through poetry.

deeply sad. hurts to read. in a perfect world, there would never have been any circumstances that would cause this book to be written. and yet!

I picked this up simply to fulfill my final Popsugar Reading Challenge prompt “Ansfield-Wolf Book Award winner” in the fastest way possible, and stumbled upon one of the best things I’ve read all year. This is the sort of story that seeps into your soul. The kind you read once and then think about for the rest of your life. The language is lyrical and the message is profound. This belongs with the classics.
