It was pretty okay. I liked the main character and the dynamic with her family and can relate to her uber academic inclinations. A fun read while we were camping in Mammoth Cave National Park.

I loved Sarah Dessens other book, something with 'lock' in the title, so I had to read another book of her.
I have to say, I love her way of writing a book. Her books are original, however with this book the end is easy to guess.
I like this book, but I like the other book I read from Dessen more. Still, it was absolutely no waste of time haha!

I know all of Sarah Dessen's books follow the same formula of girl being too mature and having family problems (usually an overbearing mother) meets a crowd of people she never envisioned to be friends with and a mysterious boy who end up helping her find her real self and after some ups and down they all get a happy ending, but I quite enjoyed this book. And you know what? Even though I don't like this kind of parents and I know it's a form of fairy tale, I enjoy books that show the protagonist growing.
And the way the main character bonds with Heidi and her baby and the addition of the late night walks and the bike were quite wonderful. So knowing the pattern and embracing it, I quite liked this book.

3.5 stars. i finally read my first sarah dessen! i know i'm not her target audience anymore but i always appreciate a fun quick YA romance
i enjoyed this but wasn't in love with it. my favorite parts were auden's relationship with her stepmother and the friendships with the esther, leah, and maggic (specifically maggie). i thought the romance was a little weird because she's spending the entirety of every single night with eli, but i feel like we didn't really see THAT much of them together? so i didn't really feel much chemistry there and didn't care much about their relationship. i think i would've liked this a lot more if it had focused more on the friendship. because this came out in 2009 and auden's attitude at first, i was really worried there would be some girl hating in here that went unchecked, so i'm glad that wasn't the case. overall, it was cute and fun, and i do have 2 other sarah dessen books so i'll probably read those at some point!

I’m not sure how to feel about this. I expected it to be a romance, because the back of it makes it seem like it’s centered around the love interest, when really the romance is more of a subplot to this. It was more of a coming of age book and the character was kind of finding out who she really is with new experiences. And there was also a lot of family drama, which was more interesting than anything else. I didn’t really like the characters together, they didn’t really have any chemistry and there weren’t really any moments of them together. When they were together, they just seemed like really good friends, rather than as a couple. I think that if this was labeled as more of a coming of age story I would have liked it more, rather than expecting romance but not getting it.
Also, this kind of dragged on a lot. A lot of stuff I felt like was kind of unnecessary, and that made the book a lot longer than it needed to be. If this was like fifty or a hundred pages shorter I would have enjoyed it more. 3 stars

I can totally understand people that give this a high rating, but for me it was too slow paced. I really liked the atmosphere but after 50% or so I noticed I was losing interest.
