A very fun book that goes into the details of someone’s entrée into the underground world of deception — similar to parts of Gone Girl in that respect. There are some dark emotional themes but overall book has a relatively fun and light feeling, considering the topics.

I enjoyed this read for the most part. It was a fun summery beachside thriller and like a good thriller movie/show it was the sort of read where you’re brought along on a journey and you’re often yelling at the characters with the decisions they make and the risks they allow all in the pursuit of curiosity, wealth, and a new beginning. The first chapter was something I haven’t seen for awhile in a book starting you towards the end of the story and then working you through what brought our characters there and I enjoyed that. Probably the aspects I didn’t enjoy were some of the sidetracked info dumps from our main character and some side characters we didn’t really need. Sadly I didn’t love the ending either as I felt like they could have taken it further and maybe had the husband been involved with some of the big bads earlier on or have some of the side conflicts tie in more with our prison documentary subjects. Some things in the story just could have had more of a pay off to me but I’ll definitely read from this author again.
