Realizing I don't wanna read about toxic people in toxic relationships. It's not a bad book, just currently exhausted by problematic ppl.
DNF.

The first 25% of the book was really slow and I dnf-ed once but I decided to try again. After the first part, things start moving along. The reason I really liked this book is the writing style and the theme, which is the tendency for people living during the midcentury in America to cover up what's really going on behind closed doors. I think this is an important book to read especially to compare to the political climate of today. Neither are perfect but we've come a long way.

Revolutionary road was totally different than I expected based on the blurp. It's quite a depressing and frustrating story. The characters are insufferable, especially the protagonist. They feel like they're trapped in their suburban life, marriage and parenthood without any sense of autonomy. I live a vastly different life to the characters, which probably impacted my difficulty to relate.

I appreciate the meaning behind the story, but found it quite dull and I didn't much enjoy the reading experience. It was thought-provoking though and  the book made me appreciate my single, child-free life even more than before.

Quite different from the movie as the thoughts of the characters predominantly tell the story of an immature couple. Their lives do not reflect their dreams and ideas of themselves. They have no ability to regulate their emotions or communicate with each other, resulting in tragedy.
I found them both to be victims of “the American Dream” and April especially affected by how this concept oppressed and discredited women’s intelligence and made presumptions about their desires and abilities.
