“I hope no one who reads this book has been quite as miserable as Susan and Lucy were that night; but if you have been - if you've been up all night and cried till you have no more tears left in you - you will know that there comes in the end a sort of quietness. You feel as if nothing is ever going to happen again.”
― C.S. Lewis, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

I haven't had the chance to read this book before. That's why I was hesitant in reading it as an adult. but I did not regret such an easy and fun read. I'd save this book for my daughter, and I'm sure she's going to love it!

Every once in a while you need a short comfort read. This is one of my favorites.
I have fond memories of my mother reading this book to me as a child, doing all the voices and everything. Maybe that colors my opinion, but every time I read any of the Narnia books I always find myself smiling and happier than I was before.

i read this years ago and had a ball but boy howdy the christian allegory is obvious as hell once someone pointed it out to me. no it's not just because i'm taking an allegory class shut up. the writing style is so quaint and descriptive while being simple it's quite nice to read. and i haven't read a kids' book in a while too. cs lewis you were really just balling with christian tradition huh

The original Narnian story. I still remember being four or five and opening a package of CDs (ha. remember those.) as a birthday gift from... my grandmother maybe? I don't really remember. Anywho, on the way home from her house the iconic journey into Narnia began.

A decade later I am finally rereading the series.

I really enjoyed this specific book in the series. It is so filled with magic and the wardrobe was one of the hugest inspirations for my childhood fantasies. I still remember shutting myself into many a closet to pretend I was being whisked away to Narnia.

As with every Narnia book, this had an allegorical connection to the bible. This time, it is the story of Jesus' (Jesus's?) sacrifice on the cross. I really enjoy the parallels and differences between the stories. It's one of my favorite parts of this series.

I have noticed that the books move much faster than the audio drama and the movies and almost (just barely) feel like a stretched out the summary.

Overall, this story was full of nostalgia and magic and I highly recommend it!

I remembered these books being so engrossing and readable as a child, but reading them as an adult is much better. Knowing more about religion and the history of World War II made me able to see all the parallels and symbolism a child would not. You can just feel Lewis' love for England pouring off the page as he wrote this gift for England's children.

Quite enjoyable. I forgot just how heavy the religious symbolism is, bit much but fortunately all over Avelynn's head. She liked Aslan and all the magic.
