I really liked this general reference on the wines and wineries of America. I enjoy history and this book includes a good amount of that, starting out with a brief history of wine making in America, including the disaster that was prohibition, and brings the reader to the present day. Beautiful pictures of vineyards and wineries across the country and easy to read maps of the wine regions discussed really helped put the text into perspective. This book also has a lot of great information about the personalities behind the wineries and vineyards around the country. There are pictures of and analysis of the information contained on the different wine labels. While the different types of grapes are discussed and the climates and soils of the different regions and even vineyards are discussed the wines themselves are only generally discussed and the reader is left to sample and decide on those themselves which for better or worse makes you want to go out and do just that. I would rate this book a 4.5 on Goodreads if I could. I received a free copy of this book through the Goodreads First Reads giveaways.
