What an unexpected diamond in the rough! I picked this book out randomly on Libby (as an audiobook) last night and started it this morning. Less than 12 hours later I’ve finished it and wow did I love it. This book is so good. It has everything I look for in a great story. Likeable (and not so likeable) characters, character DEVELOPMENT, LAYERS (comedy, thrill, sadness, you name it,) and it was pretty fast paced!
This book isn’t life changing by any means, but it was super fun and even made some really good social commentary on corporate hierarchy and the fiscal state of America. I didn’t give it 5 stars because I would’ve spent more time developing certain characters/scrapped some that didn’t need the spotlight they were given, and there were 2 small racist bits- ones about white privilege and Tina made a comment that Wendy’s band members (who were all Asian) looked the same/ some generalized comment about Chinese people. I took points off for that. Wendy was a good character though, and other than the couple problematic comments this book was genuinely really good.
4.75/5 stars.
