This book was fine. I give it 2.5 stars. The writing was good. The plot just... didn't exist. I mean, the entire plot was written on the dustjacket. Twin girls. One decides to pass as white. The other decides to marry a black man and live as a black person. It just felt like nothing happened after that. At the end they finally meet again, but did it feel like either of them had really undergone an arc? No. I just found the story boring. It wasn't doing anything interesting, leading me somewhere--both girls just lived average, mundane lives and that was it. Nor did the book really plumb their psychology in an interesting way. I guess I just don't really understand what the fuss over this book is for.

This book was like edging. It will get you close to a point where you want to be and then take you back in time and remove that excitement. It was pretty thrilling and although not much happened in the book I constantly wanted to read it and see what happened next and where their lives would go. I enjoyed the characters and enjoyed their morally grey areas. Excellent read

I've literally dnfed like five books in a row but I can't. The writing was PHENOMENAL. But I wasnt connected with the story or the characters or the (nonexistent) plot. Dnf @60 something %
