Although there was nothing new or unknown in this book, there were many great reminders and tips of how to be more present which as a perfectionistic worrier who dwells on everything is quite a feat!
I really enjoyed Shauna’s chatty writing style and how she wrote so openly and honestly as it made the book really easy to read and get into. I also really like short chapters, which this book has, so that’s another ‘point’ for that.

This is like Thrive by Huffington but with less research & actionable advice & more Jesus. It has the same problems & also is just not as powerful or useful. I never would’ve read it if I knew it was a Christian book.

I really enjoyed this Bible Study about being present with God and through God instead of striving to be perfect for God

I really loved this book because I could relate to many of the issues the authors discusses...like the issues deep in my soul that I struggle with daily. I bookmarked so many parts of the book because they hit me right in the gut. Or made me cry. Knocked off one star for it being a little too Jesus-y for my taste but I took those parts for what they were worth to me. Also, as a pragmatist I wanted a little more how-to rolled in there. But overall I enjoyed it and recommend it.

Reminder of what is important.
So many beautiful truths about living life in the present. Thank you very freeing read. Just need to hold on to those truths now.

“But what I’ve learned the hard way is you don’t answer to a wide swath of people and their opinions, even if they’re good people, with good opinions. You were made by hand with great love by the God of the universe, and he planted deep inside of you a set of loves and dreams and idiosyncrasies, and you can ignore them as long as you want, but they will at some point start yelling. Worse than that, if you ignore them long enough, they will go silent, and that’s the real tragedy.”

Read for faith-based inspo on getting your priorities straight!

Spring is a season of refreshment so it felt like a great time to go the personal development route with my next non-fiction read.
Present Over Perfect was a great choice. It was a lil wordy and hard to relate at times, but, overall, it was a really positive read and had some solid perspective on prioritizing and adjusting your mindset.
It is more of a memoir with some self help layered in. I personally liked that mix because, while I appreciated her insight, Niequist is not exactly someone whose personal perspective is relatable. It’s a lil hard for me to understand a life of traveling too much and having to turn down work offers. This is why the way it’s written makes sense to me. She is telling her story and what she’s learned. There were a lot of valuable take always for me even if my journey looks significantly different.
I hear Niequist is known for her food writing so I’m definitely curious to check that ours because she is a good writer....also because I love me some food talk.

So much to highlight!
Shauna reaches the other doers in this book. As one who fills her time with busy-ness (productive or not) I strongly resonated with and learned from Shauna's lessons. I am pretty sure I highlighted half of the book!
