This book is seen in my video: Boyfriend Chooses My Weekly TBR⎬(themed) Reading Vlog⁴

If I had to sell you this book in one line I would say, “Sherlock Holmes meets Doctor Who in a magical Indiana Jones treasure hunt but the treasure is rare books.” I honestly have no idea how I hadn’t heard about this before my boyfriend randomly chose it for me (link to YouTube video where BF Chooses my TBR below). This book is going straight on my ‘feel good’ reads shelf.
We are launched into a tale, with main character’s Irene (female) and Kai (male) who need to jump to a parallel universe in order to retrieve a special edition of Grimm’s fairytales. They need this novel to add to The Library’s collection, a world between worlds where the Librarian’s (that’s Irene) calls home. There’s a lot to wrap your head around with the magic system (different parallel universe’s have different amounts/manifestations of magic) but once you have it, the story just takes you along with it. The world building in this is top notch. I’m quite a visual reader and this book unravelled in my mind like a film.
I thought the characters were cool. I thought the plot was fun. I thought the writing style was easy enough to sink my teeth into. It’s one of those books that hasn’t necessarily blow me out the water in a strictly literary sense, but it’s one of those books that I can see myself returning to after a book slump or as a pick me up. There isn’t any romance in this novel, but there is definitely some tension that I hope is carried on/resolved as the series continues - something I will definitely keep reading.
To summarise here is what my post it note said on page 28… “Is this a series? Please tell me it is a series? *google* OMG YAY there’s 8 books!!”

I liked the concept of the story, but it didn't grip me as I would have hoped. The characters lacked a little depth. It was an okay read.
