Generally when I find a book for free I set myself up for disappointment. Thankfully this time I was wrong! I finished this book cover to cover in less than 24 hours. The characters were steeped in enough real world rationale that you couldn't help but to cheer them on and wish for the best. I like that the author gives little tidbits to leave you wondering what happened in the past and actually reintroduces the tidbits to tie up loose ends. I hate when an author foreshadows a concept and forgets to reintroduce it before the book ends.
My only wish for this book was that it was a bit longer. Plots that were slightly more involved beefing the entire story. Months went by in the book with just the "months later" mentality.
Great read

predictable, but satisfying

Like many of the paranormal type romance series out there, this one sets itself up for many sequels by introducing a large family with various psychic gifts. You know we will end up matching each sibling up with their perfect match before series end. Technically this book is not about the Lattimer family, the lad character is actually Akira, a young brilliant woman who can see and communicate with ghosts. She comes with a healthy distrust in using her abilities, mostly inspired by her now-deceased father's strictness. She is discovered by the Lattimer patriarch, and rather tricked into joining his family business under the guise of continuing her physics research. She is drawn to the youngest Lattimer son, and he to her, he seems to spend most of the book convincing her that it's ok to be different and use her abilities. Akira learns that she has many incorrect or not-fully-explored notions about ghosts, and she grows a bit in her use of her "quirk". The usual disaster appears, being of potential fatality, Akira is saved and she and her beau come thru the trial together. Fairly typical, formula romance, not very smutty unfortunately, but there is a mild sex scene.

A Gift of Ghosts by Sarah Wynde is really good and cute story. I read in within a couple of hours (and cannot wait to read the next book in the series). Akira Malone is a physicist and she can also see ghosts (not that she announces it). Akira interviews for a wonderful job at General Directions (a company with a very vague description). She is offered the job and moves from California to Tassamara, Florida. Akira meets the Latimer family: Max (the father), Zane, Lucas, Natalya, and Grace. Each family member has a special gift. Read how Akira adjusts to her new job, new town, and people finding out about her quirk (as she refers to her ability to see and talk to ghosts). A Gift of Ghosts is such one of those books that is just a delight to read. I enjoy a book that can make you laugh. I hope you will read A Gift of Ghosts and love it as much as I do. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series, A Gift of Thought.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I'm giving this book two stars only because I like the ghosts. If it wasn't for Rose, Henry, and Dillon it'd get a one star. The book started out really charming, but Akira, Zane, and Zane's family have no character development. Akira has all of these secrets, but they don't really make her have any more depth. Zane seems like a placeholder. He has absolutely no personality. Half of the book seems like it was phoned in with great plot development with something to the effect of "Akira and Zane went Kayaking, while other people dealt with problems."

Reading some books I downloaded a long time ago. This was a cute hallmarkish story with a woman who can talk to ghosts. I really enjoyed it!

Things I liked:
  1. Akira is not a cookie cutter contemporary FMC
  2. MMC and FMC are older
  3. The ghost story has some interesting twists in the world of magic
  4. I want to know about the other siblings and town residents

Things I didn’t like:
  1. Zane doubting her
  2. The name Zane
  3. Rose

Not bad, with some great supporting (ghost) characters - Dillon, Rose, Henry. Good story line that was original with a somewhat surprising ending.

I was browsing through the free section to pass time and frankly didn't expect to find anything that interested me much less something that I would like and was very pleasantly surprised to come across this. I started and finished it in the same day. It was quick, light, entertaining and exactly what I needed at the time. I interactions between the characters was cute. I do wish I'd made note of my opinions as I went along.. I always mean to and I never do. Pthtbbttt..

SpoilerHowever, almost lost me when things started to look as though they might turn religious with the mention of heaven/hell but I appreciated that it sort of veered on from that and left things hazy. Nothing lets me down like mixing religion into my fantasy/sci-fi.

A quick, fun read. Will probably read the next one, too.

WHAT I LIKED
---------------
- The town of Tassamara is cute and friendly. Charmingly magical, it's a place I'd move to in a heartbeat.
- The friendly ghosts in the female lead's house and car melted my heart a bit.
- I found a nice pace, a good wit, and a general sense of enjoyment in reading this book.

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE
-------------------
- Female lead seems a little dense and in denial when it comes to her ability to see ghosts and the new town she lives in. Obviously, the town is full of people with special powers, so no one's going to be worried about her being able to see ghosts. It seemed like a bit of a weird sticking point for her.

- The sudden transition from growing relationship to sex between the two main characters was a bit sudden for me. Also, the female lead spent the initial courting treating the whole thing rather timidly, then suddenly she's full on seduction in his office. What? Not a deal breaker, but not all that smooth either.

This book isn't going to blow your mind, I don't think, but it's a solid and fun story with a few oddities. I'd say it's worth picking up from the library or on the cheap if there's an Amazon special.

Interesting enough to read another book in the series.
