Good continuation but I wished the relationship was stronger

1st read - I blew through this book and liked it more than the first one. The artifact plot made more sense and I really liked seeing Rory and Arthur's relationship becoming deeper. I liked Rory's jealousy even though he completely trusts Arthur, and that they both are getting better at communicating.
Spoiler Gwen and Ellis come back at the end and are starting to make more sense. I still don't quite understand why they keep treating their friends as enemies, but I'm willing to go with it.

2nd read - I didn't love the narrator's take on Ace's voice and accent, but it was still enjoyable.

so obsessed with Arthur and Rory's dynamic <3

Plotwise it's a retread of the first largely, but that's okay because I still liked the plot. But yeah I'm mostly here for how protective they are over each other and ashdfafhjksfhasjk. I usually listen to audiobooks sped up, but I kept slowing this one down because I didn't want it to be over! Only one more book with these two? How am I gonna survive T-T

Starcrossed almost picks up immediately where we left off from Spellbound with Ace and Rory. I'll admit that I did have a bit of trouble remembering some characters and details of the first book (it's been a while), but I did eventually get back into the groove of the story.

It starts off with a small lull in the beginning but soon kicks off into some paranormal action and mystery with our heroes trying to find out who's behind a string of gruesome murders in NYC. I'm a sucker for powers, so I loved seeing the different more of the paranormal abilities that were introduced, but to be honest, the magic system still doesn't feel quite as fleshed out to me.
SpoilerThere's also a sub-plot with an ex coming back into the picture, which usually puts me off but worked well in this case!

Overall, this was still a light and fun read in the moment, and I will be continuing with series.

Thank you NetGalley and Carina Press for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review

I'm still uncomfortable with the infantilization of Rory but if you liked the last book then you'll like this one
