Love the art, love the small insight to Laia and Darin’s lives before the start of the series.

This prequel graphic novel focuses on Darin. I really enjoyed getting a glimpse of his story before the main series!

I vibed with the art in this a lot. The message of you can't let fear overtake your life when it doesn't change your circumstances was loud and clear, even though I think the brother was deadass reckless.

“Fear takes the joy out of living.”

I really enjoyed getting a glimpse into Laia’s life before the events in the first book. She changes so much as a character throughout the books so it was great to go back to the start and experience her life with her family. I also enjoyed that there was a lot of focus on Darin and how he ended up making the choices he did. I would have loved to learn more about their parents and their very early life though.
