Way too effing long and lost interest. Wanted to find out how it ended, but it was just too much.

It was probably the least out of the series so far. Only thing that kept me interested were the personal lives of the main characters. There were many loose ends so I am expecting another one from JK in the next few years.

This fifth book in the Cormoran Strike series may have been my favorite so far. Strike and Robin's detective agency has progressed to the point where they have three subcontractors to help with surveillance, a surly chain-vaping secretary, and the confidence to take on the 40-year old cold case disappearance of doctor, wife and mother Margot Bamborough. A large part of their investigation includes analyzing the notebook of Detective Talbot, the original case investigator, whose mental breakdown made him believe he could solve the case by means of the occult. All of the zodiac references got hard to follow, but there were enough other clues that I had a pretty good idea who had done it before it was revealed. The real charm in the book is the character development of Strike and Robin and their relationship. I especially enjoy the dialogue between them when they are brainstorming a case. I couldn't put it down, but didn't want it to end.
