Here lies Lauren - reader and lover of the Bergmans.
Cause of death: the chemistry between Oliver and Gavin.
May she rest in horny peace.

Thank you netgalley for an eARC. What a privilege to read this one early! The way Chloe Liese writes with emotional intelligence, depth, heart, and sass is everything to me. And the banter! God, the banter. I loved this story and the tenderness with which each character overcame obstacles and got out of their own way in order to receive the love they deserve.

I need the Bergman series to never end thank you so much!!!!!

I devoured this book and absolutely loved Ollie and Gavin’s story. While this can be read as a standalone, I HIGHLY recommend reading the previous books first (the audiobooks are also amazing) to avoid any spoilers. The Bergmans are by far my favorite book family. I love how we got to see so much of all of them in this story, especially Viggo, who’s book I assume is next. Chloe Liese always knows how to handle difficult topics with such grace and in a way that really makes your understand and connect. I will say this story felt a bit more steamy than the others, but I’m all for it!

Read if you like:
-M/m sports romance
-Age gap
-Close proximity (teammates and next door neighbors)
-Big, tight-knit families
-Hamilton/ Encanto references
-Ted Lasso

Thanks NetGalley and Chloe Liese for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. Pub date: 5/10/22

Ever since I watched and read Heartstopper the algorithm recommends romance novels featuring gay men to me which is how this book, which is in the middle of a series, ended up in front of me. Usually seeing a book in the middle like this would send me back to book 1 but this is essentially a romance between a nicer version of Jamie Tartt and Roy Kent and I just couldn’t resist.

It’s pretty over the top in a lot of ways but interesting because these characters have issues that are a little more real than the typical silly misunderstandings of a romance and it sounds like most of the lead characters in the series have leads that have physical disabilities, some mental health challenges (like Oliver in this book who has anxiety and panic attacks), and others who are neurodivergent.

But mostly this is gay Roy Kent fan fic and that was fine by me.

OLIVER AND GAVIN. UGH. this book was so stinking good. i love an enemies to lovers and then you throw in the workplace and you have got an easy five star from me. the tension and banter between them was intoxicating. i kept craving more and more until the book was over. i love that their coach was the one secretly working in the background for them to be together. and the age gap?! i LOVE a good 10 year age gap. i ate that up honestly. i also love that oliver loved gavin even when he was younger and gavin was just starting his soccer career. the wanting that both of them faced for each other had me ready to scream and them and just say be together already! i really really really enjoyed seeing them go from getting on each others nerves, to the pranking each other, to finally giving into each other. they make each other better and it made my heart MELT. i love how much they were there for each other once they gave into their feelings. i gotta say i also LOVED when gavin was cooking and playing with oliver's niece. it was so fun to see how far all of the other bergman siblings have come with their little families. i also was just so happy that gavin finally "found family". all the heart tears.

tropes:
- enemies to lovers
- forced proximity
- workplace
- soccer romance
- age gap
- grumpy x sunshine
- anxiety + chronic pain rep

I haven't watched Ted Lasso but I've seen enough TikToks to know this is Ted!Roy fanfic - in a good way!

The story was enjoyable, but I wanted more of the enemies to lovers energy and romance. Of course I enjoy the other Bergman check-ins and the side characters, but there were a few instances where those scenes (IMHO) took the focus off of the romance for too long.

Bergman Brothers meets Ted Lasso, which is just as wonderful as it sounds. I am continually impressed with how Liese is able to weave honest, believable backstories for characters who are new to the Bergmans’ lives while also developing the inner lives of the characters the reader has grown to love over the course of five books. It makes for a truly delightful read.
