Europe is on the brink of war but there are still those who believe that they can use a bit of mysticism and magic to push on.
Young Lena had grown up in the circus, courtesy of her illusionist father Theo. Her physical limitations have left her feeling an outsider in such a world of wonder. Until one day she finds a stowaway.
Alexandre has spent his life on the run, always hiding who he was from the world. Now he has been offered a chance to change his destiny; but not without a few strings attached.
Young love torn apart by war and deception. The circus life isn’t all you may have dreamed.

Parikh does an amazing job capturing life for those who weren’t certain they would live to see another day. She touches on issues of race, physical disability, hardship, resilience, love, and regret. Definitely worth a read

This book was fantastic! I got so absorbed in the story and storytelling. They started to mention something and couldn’t wait to find out what it ended up being about. Recommend reading this book!!

I wanted to like this novel, but it’s just not very well-written. There are some serious plot holes and plot twists that do not move the story forward.

I’m a sucker for a WWII novel. Add a circus, some magic, a girl coming of age in a wheelchair trying to overcome challenges, and a little romance, and I’m hooked. This was perfect for those who like the Night Circus and the Tattooist of Auschwitz. It was just enough magical and lighthearted to take the bite out of the oppressive and difficult parts of the book.

This book was good. It took me a long time to get into it though. A little more than halfway through, the storyline picked up and it was easier to get into it after that.

Great book! Polio + WWII + young love + growing up with Dad. A little bit All the Light We Cannot See but definitely holds it own as an original story too.
