A gripping roller-coaster ride.

This book was an amazing book. From the very beginning you knew you were in for a treat. And, a good one at that. And, when it really took off you were in for the long-haul. The story was gripming, well written, and well-read, I used the immersive reading to dive into this one and it definitely made it a great experience. Ms Herbert takes you right into the action and makes you feel right at home all the while driving the roller-coaster with such precision it would make your head spin. And, it does for sure. The twists and turns here just make it so much sweeter. Being an Alabama native myself, I 'know the environment, the locales, even though she changed some of the names, the environment was familiar enough it felt like home. If you're looking for a gripping mystery, beleievable characters, and beleiveable locales, check this one out. You'll fall in love, and take a ride you'd never expect. Word to the wise though, hold on. Tight!!

This book is really more of a 4.5 than a 4. Della goes through a terrible traumatic event and spends the rest of her life trying to live a normal life. When her father gets released from prison for the death of her mother & brother she has to relive the whole thing again and he claims he didn't do it. Every chapter is told from a different person's perspective and every one left me with a new theory of who it could have been. The end was a surprise even though I had a million theories. If this is on your list and you read it I'd love to know if you figure out who the killer is before the end of the book!

Scorched Grounds was such an engaging book and I really liked Debbie Herbert's writing style. There's well written suspense to keep you on your toes, it's well paced and the the characters are complex, especially Della.

2nd book in the series. Same setting but with a different set of characters. Didn’t see that twist coming. Good book overall.

The first chapter of this book is absolutely wild and will suck you in immediately! Then, we switch gears to 18 years later, and Della's father, who was sent to prison for murdering her mother, is released from prison. Della wants absolutely nothing to do with him, but then questions start to surface. Is he guilty, or was he framed? Who was responsible for her mother's death all those years ago?

This book was really good, and you definitely don't have to read the first in order to enjoy this one. Overall, I would recommend to anyone looking for a fast paced, suspenseful read!

"The word that immediately comes to mind while reading SCORCHED GROUNDS by Debbie Herbert is I-N-T-E-N-S-E. Not the usual run of the mill white knuckle stuff, but the kind of heart-stopping intensity that only comes along every great once in a while. My jaw still aches from being in a state of perpetual drop throughout the entirety of the book. I highly recommend this compelling read!"
