HOLY MOTHERTRUCKING.. GOD.

This was one of the MOST horrible things I have EVER read.

Why...why?

I only recently discovered how freaking sexy David Bowie is as Jareth in The Labyrinth so I decided to immerse myself in any fanfiction and sequels possible. I read the reviews for this on here yesterday but thought "It can't be THAT bad, can it?"

I was wrong.. oh so wrong.. I'm glad I read it now though.. in a masochistic way, I'm glad I read it.. Now I have something to "use as basis" for another horrible manga I may unfortunately come across in the (not-hopefully) near future.

Art

Goddamn you, manga. I looked closely at the little text. Apparently SOMEBODY ELSE did the cover art. It's like this scenario went down:

"Oh my God the artist sucks! Quick! We need someone else to make the cover so people will actually waste their money and read it!"

"Don't people usually page through manga volumes before considering buying it?"

"No! Of course not!! Do they ? O_O "

description

"Sigh... Just get me my Copic Markers... Let's draw this bitch.."

Seriously. This is something a BUDDING wannabe mangaka would draw, not a professional. I haven't seen such terrible art that was actually printed and INTENDED for the public with the seriousness of "this is my profession..yeah, I make money off of these drawings". Sweet Christ!

What killed me was that Jareth, even in his "normal" form, looked NOTHING like himself! His lips were black --WTF--, and once Toby donned the same clothing, they were basically twins.. Christ..

Story

What story? I just basically paged through at that point. I mean, there was NOTHING that was redeemable.. Nothing. All shit, all the time.

I give this one star. I almost never give anything one star, but this is probably the second friggin time I've had to for my sanity's sake.

Read this if you are a I'll-bleed-for-this-series kind of fan, but not if you want your childhood to stay intact and wholesome. Go to your fanfiction, find refuge there. Go on DeviantArt.com and search for some Jareth fan art..

Here, let me allow the healing process to begin:

Great to see new characters, as well as old. A good continuation of the story several years later. I am really interested in reading more!

A great sequel to one of my favorite movies. Definitely an interesting manga. It adds a couple of characters, like Moppet. I can't quite figure out what's going on with her though. You don't see her face at all in this volume. I wonder if she is a 'version' of Sarah that got stuck in the Labyrinth.

Toby is now in high school. Hates his mom. Sarah has moved out. He's not doing so great in school. He's a normal high school kid for the most part. One day he is working on a history report and when he has finished he prints it but it's not there. He turns around and there is a goblin running off with his report. So, he follows the goblin into the labyrinth. I'm not too fond of the way he got to the labyrinth.

As he is making his way into the labyrinth and towards the castle, he meets some new friends. He also runs into trouble and gets arrested by the goblin mayor. Jareth turns up and gets him out of trouble and takes him back to his castle with him. Jareth has a ball planned for everyone. At this ball, Jareth announces that his is giving up his throne and passing it down to Toby.

I'm impressed the style is kept close to the original movie.

A friend bought me my copy of this book. I am a huge Labyrinth fan and he thought I might like to see the story continue a bit. I absolutely loved the first installment of this series. I'm hungry to see where the story line goes, though the art style itself deviates pretty wildly from the original vision of the movie. Hopefully they styles become more aligned as the volumes go on!

This experience was... Ugh. A beautiful cover commissioned from an artist with a very different style and skill level than the content inside was the first problem. Then came the uninspired story. And of course, what the Jim Henson movie was missing: Hot fantasy babes in skimpy clothes with questionable anatomy! At the same time as managing to make Jareth look hideous, which is quite a feat. So glad that they were able to fulfill everyone's dream of turning this girl child classic movie into a manchild comic sequel. All that said, it was at least a swift read, and since I already have the other 3 I might push through just to say I read it. We'll have to see, I guess.

Interesting sequel to a movie I haven't seen in eons. But it's rekindled my interest in Labyrinth. Manga-style artwork, but left to right which I personally prefer to read. Story concerns Toby, who was a baby in the movie but is now a teen (his older sister Sarah is an adult and keeps an eye on him), and has no idea that he's being groomed to be the next Goblin King. He doesn't even know there is a labyrinth or any of that weird fantastical stuff; he's just trying to make it through school, but some weird things keep happening to him. Good story, with, of course, a cliffhanger ending. Argh.
