I would definitely recommend this for people who don’t know much about Palestine/Israel and aren’t coming in with strong zionist bias. Pappé covers a lot of ground clearly and succinctly, persuasively and firmly rooted in fact.

Personally, I saw a lot of spaces where I wanted to dig in deeper, especially when it came to arguments that zionists would contest. It’s fine that this isn’t that book, but wish there had been more detail or nuance in some places

  • This is a must-read if you’d like to learn more about Palestine, and especially if you were subjected to Western media propaganda about the history of Palestine.

  • Ilan Pappe is an Israeli historian who has written multiple books on Palestine and unveiled the truth behind the zionist propaganda. This book targets 10 of the most common myths that are often associated with Israel such as Israel being the “only democracy in the Middle East”, “Palestine was an empty land”, “Zionism is Judaism”…etc. I was shocked at how many of these lies are still being used to justify the Zionist’s fascist regime despite being proven false time and time again by historians.

  • Every time I think I’ve read or seen the worst of it, there are even more examples of how evil the zionist government is. From massacres and mass graves to carpet bombings and the killing of innocent civilians to Nazi-like behavior, to every other evil and inhumane thing you can imagine.

  • Although this was published years ago and documents the atrocities that have happened in Gaza throughout history, it’s still very relevant to current times and it’s heartbreaking how the same is happening now, only more violent.

This was immensely informative and I’m glad it exists, Papé is extremely knowledgeable and I liked getting this more scholarly side to the conflict. I think it works effectively as a tool to show the truth of Israel-Palestine, especially to those who lean more towards supporting Israel. No matter what level of knowledge you have about the “conflict,” you’ll get something out of this.

A short, concise, not overly academic book that debunks several core myths about the state of Israel that are frequently peddled and parroted to justify the crimes committed against the Palestinian people.

If you read it front to back, some of it may feel repetitive as there are overlaps between chapters, but the myth-by-myth structure allows you to skip around which I appreciate.

Succinct, clear, well argued. Good starting point to learn more about Palestine and Israel.
