OKIIE! it took me two weeks & a day to read this book which is surprising because it was pretty lengthy and like i said, his books usually take me a while to read.

ANYWAY! this book was….WOW! it was one of those books that kept you on the edge of your seat. As soon as you thought you knew what was going to happen next, a complete curve ball was thrown and it left you on your ass trying to figure out what your name is. It’s frightening yet compelling, fast paced, yet steady. and the ending, will BLOW YOU AWAY! i mean yea he leaves the book off on a semi pleasant note, but what you’ll remember after turning the final page is the sickening gruesome image that you’re tortured with three pages before the end. UGH i don’t want to give too much away just in case anyone actually READS this and decides to check the book out but….this book was MINDBLOWING!

BTW….i had two nightmares because of this book, one so bad that i woke up and was outside of my door with a sense of terror as if i was running from someone….or something. and the other i woke up in a sweat…smh WOW!

My favorite Koontz by far, the mind string is a concept often expressed in special populations...what if it's real?

I used to read lot of Koontz, but looking back over my reviews since joining goodreads, I noticed the few listed have got three stars or less. Have my tastes changed, or have I just picked up the not so good ones over the last few years.

The idea os the story was good, however I just didn't connect with any of the characters. I also didn't like the use of the words dumb, stupid and retarded whenever Thomas and his friends were mentioned, am I sensitive as I volunteer with people with Downs and they are anything but, or is it just that this book was written some time ago when it was more acceptable to use such words. Probably a bit of both but the fact that they had to use pay phones to call anyone indicated it was written in a time before mobiles were so common.

The ending was pretty predictable really. Not a bad read but not the best either.

I couldn't do it. It was terrible and unrealistic... or at least unrealistic for a book. There was teleportation, vampires (or a creepy guy that bit women's throats and sucked their blood), telecommunication, a weird amnesiac with a shadowy figure following him, etc., etc. Yeah, not recommended.

Favorite Quotes

That was one of the most fundamental and sacred duties good friends and families performed for one another! They tended the flame of memory, so no one’s death meant an immediate vanishment from the world; in some sense the deceased would live on after their passing, at least as long as those who loved them lived. Such memories were an essential weapon against the chaos of life and death, a way to ensure some continuity from generation to generation, an order of endorsement and meaning.

Dean, Dean, Dean...I think I've got to take a break from you...I know you've matured as an author throughout the years, but this book should be renamed from "The Bad Place", to "The Bad Book", because it was just that. Cannot believe it got a rating hirer than what I've GENEROUSLY given it.

Similar to my love-hate relationship with Stephen King books is my "this is boring-this is mildly interesting" relationship with Dean Koontz books. That being said, this one was a little better than mildly interesting. I enjoyed reading it and it held my attention all the way through.

While it might not be for everyone, if you like horror/sci-fi fluff, then this is excellent beach reading for you!

While I love that it was set in Orange County , CA where I was raised, I ended up not finishing the book because I just couldn't catch the story. I read the premise and like it but I was having a problem with it getting to the story line. I felt like it kept jumping around with out a reason why it was jumping around.

I honestly can't remember much about this book now. If I gave it 5 stars when I read it it had to be quite the page turning story
