I enjoyed the writing but could not get behind anything in the story. There was lots of room for themes of forgiveness and family that the author seemed to want to delve into, but none of it was handled with any depth. When the big decision to finally meet the family happened it was shoved into the last chapter and therefore wasn't explored beyond walking into the room and book over. The romance crowded this book and I think undermined a lot of what could have been good.

I found this as a "Together We Read" challenge on Libby, and decided to give it a try. It's not a genre I usually like, but I enjoyed the story. I found the ending to be rushed, but otherwise liked the story.

Whew! The feelings this book dragged out of me. Every year there is always that one book that shreds my heart to pieces and then puts it back to together. This is that book. 10/10. No notes.
