This book was so good I could cry! 😩🥹 in fact I almost did. The author covered some tough topics, grief, trauma, forgiveness, just to name a few. The author really gave us all of Sara and much of Jacob. She allowed us into their minds so we could travel with them through their thought process. Sara and Jacob needed this summer in Savannah more than they could have imagined as it helped them in so many ways.

I also enjoyed the supporting characters, Sylvia and Sara’s dad, Hosea. His verbal communication being only poems confused me in the beginning, but as the story went on I started to understand what he was communicating to everyone as if I was becoming a student too ☺️. & Sylvia ? Love her. She pushed Sara without forcing her. Gave her balance when she was teetering over the edge.

Now Jacob, he had a lot to come to grips with as well. I applaud him for coming back to face it and challenge himself and not being scared of falling for Sara and her family. Sara’s family showed him what his family somewhat used to be and guided him back on the road to forgiveness.

This book was a lot and I’m upset that I took so long to read it. I’m also grateful that my husband bought it for me, so I’ll forever have the physical copy to cherish.

Not sure how I feel about the premise. Feels icky at some points and quite unrealistic for most of it. Writing was fine.

Would absolutely never recommend to survivors of sexual assault.

It was an easy, light, enjoyable read. A lot of things seemed very unrealistic or improbable, but looking beyond that, the story was interesting because of the character'  relationships and the themes   of family, forgiveness and trauma.

Wow wow wow this book was phenomenal! Definitely the best book I've read this year!

So many heavy topics covered in this book but also how brave and incredible these characters are. The entire book revolves around the topic of forgiveness. For the victims, for the families of the victims, for the perpetrator. So many people are affected by this one act. Even 8 years later, this book shows the fallout of that. But when the dust settles how do you move on? How do you live your life?

This book featured so many layers. I loved hearing from both Jacob & Sara's perspectives. There was so much hurt and so much love in this book - I loved how realistic it was. The author mentioned in her notes at the end of the book that she likes writing bittersweet endings &. I think in this scenario she did it justice. The author did mention she had written a letter from Sara to Birdie that would have tied things up nicely but decided to leave it out. As much as I am curious to read it I am satisfied with the ending - although a little too abrupt for my liking.

I would have also loved to read Hosea's letter to Sarah but it almost felt too intimate for the readers to hear since Hosea only ever spoke in Poetry. Speaking of poetry, I think it worked in this book. I don't love reading it but the way it was weaved into the story and text was beautiful even if I didn't fully understand it. I simply cannot recommend this book enough, especially for a debut author. I cannot wait to read her next one!
