I love Frances, the parts expressing her imagination, and the realism of the 'but I'm not tired' refrain were great; but I wasn't big on the spanking part. Not a bad book- nd I still love Frances, but just didn't feel comfortable reading it to a child.

This was cute until the dad used an inconsistent metaphor to instill the fear of physical violence against his daughter. But don’t worry, she drifted off calmly thinking about the beatings

This was very sweet, although the child modeling "not going to bed" is not my favorite trope.

It started cute and relatable, but that ending was rather unsatisfying, being a child who grew up with raging insomnia.

It is bedtime for badger Frances who doesn't want to sleep. The story is told like the badger is really a child because of the real situations that happen and can happen with kids.

OMG - this was tonight with my kiddos. The only reason this isn't 5 stars is because this is soooo true to life, I got annoyed while reading. I wanted to skip ahead on watch Frances fall asleep already. ha! Parent life I guess... my kiddos loved it.

As useful as this book is for talking about bedtime fears with my young daughter I almost fear it makes her think of things she wouldn't have otherwise thought of. I also don't like how the father threatens her with a spanking. My daughter loves Frances though so she still enjoys it.

Frances is a feisty little girl who does NOT want to go to bed. Her imagination gets away from her and she sees frightening things in her room that she then needs to run to her parents about. She gets reprimanded eventually. The book is told exactly like how a young child thinks and talks which is very fun for the reader.

I loved this book as a child, and am pleased as punch that my kids love it too. We walk around singing the song, "S is for sailboat, T is for tiger, U is for underwear down in the drier" to the same tune my mother set it to so many years ago. Despite having quite a lot of dialogue for a children's book, the story is so engaging that you don't get bored. One of my favorite things about the book is that though the illustrations show some grumpy faces on Dad, he's such a softie at heart for Frances. Equally matched are the words and illustrations...both are timeless.

Parents can enjoy the familiarity of the zillions of reasons that children have trouble falling asleep, while children enjoy and relate to the playful way the author has of resolving Frances' bedtime concerns.
