SCHOOL LIBRARIAN REVIEW: This is a good idea for a book, but it's pretty nebulous and subjective. I've read it to elementary school kids and the youngest are confused by it. I would recommend it for grades three and up...even into the high school level.

What do yo do with an idea? A little boy tries different ways of dealing with his idea. He finally becomes friends with his idea and slowly shows his idea to the world. Some mock and ridicule his idea but the boy decides to nurture the idea as it grows. This book employs a clever illustration technique. The illustrations are mainly black and white pencil drawings. The only spot of color comes from the boy's idea. As the idea grows and is nurtured, more and more color spreads across the page.

1. New York Times Best Seller, Independent Publishers Award, Washington State Book Award, Moonbeam Children's book Award
2. Kindergarten- Grade 3
3. Many people struggle with an idea, and what to do with one. This book tells of a child with an idea that is nurtured, and finally becomes something great. As the child's confidence grows, so does the idea.
4. The simple wording, and highly detailed pictures make this an engaging and educational book. Children can see first hand what happens when they put time and energy into an idea and how it can change the world.
5. This is a great read aloud, also for a technology unit, encouraging students to think outside the box and nurture their ideas.

What I love about this book are two things: it doesn’t give away what the idea is (it doesn’t matter, it’s an idea, a dream to pursue!) and the illustrations progress from only the idea being in color to the world around the idea because it exists.

This book's illustrations are beautiful, but the story is so simple and perfect. I LOVED this for anyone who dares to try, to dream.

Yet another children's book that I read with a philosophical perspective. Although it wasn't too difficult because this book is already philosophical. What do you do with an idea? It's beautiful really, a nice and simple way to talk about what ideas are and what happens when you have one.
