Beautiful. Magical. I LOVED reading this book. I got goosebumps reading the very magical moments. I felt lost when I finished it. I wish I could read it for the first time again.

This book takes you on a slow but magical journey through time and life. With a comforting regularity, it switches point of view between characters bringing harmoniously three very topical thematics: the condition of women in history (20th century), women's struggles today, and expectation from society for men to be men.

Truly, this story showcases the good and the bad and pleads for everyone to find their true self, for the outcast to be proud and not to conform, and for books and imagination to bring you freedom.

I thought getting into this book that is was historical romance book, but it's so much more than that. It's magical, but it's realistic, it has fantasy elements at times, and mysterious. I liked a lot of the characters, however I felt like the romance on Opaline's part is over done. The ending wasn't my favorite either, but I think the author is trying to teach a lesson,
it's not alwasys about getting to goal of the book, but it's about the characters and how they come together
. There's a second book coming out that's associeated with this universe, so I'm curious to see how they collide together.

Pretty good until the end,
l liked most of the twists but the twist with Madame Bowden felt a little rushed and confusing
