Couldn’t do it, way too slow for me. So many books and too little time. DNF’ing more in 2023!

Great read. Cassie was a bit annoying but she owned that eventually. I was shocked at the ending. I love a good who dunnit.

Was it longer than it had to be? Maybe. But it grew on me.
An exploration of the paradox of finding one's self, wanting to see oneself and be seen by others, very possibly hurting those we love the most, but doing it anyway. And then sacrificing everything to protect those we love the most.

Also a good portrait of a young person who decides not to settle, at significant personal risk. Good for you, person. I am jealous.

I’m conflicted? This is a family drama with a small twist at the end, it’s not a thriller or a suspense and don’t go in expecting one. The middle of this book was so repetitive (why’d you spend 50+ pages on thanksgiving) and the ending left a lot up to interpretation. I don’t feel like I have closure about this book and after reading 431 pages I want to.

A lot of really good moments talking about marriage and motherhood, I enjoyed the writing in this book so much and can’t believe it’s a debut. I have a few unanswered questions which may just be me but overall I recommend for family drama readers who want an original story.

I think the idea was interesting. And the way it was written was also compelling. But it could have been shorter, it really dragged sometimes and I had trouble with Cassie's side of things.
