Yehuda Amichai mingles autobiography and Jewish history into a strange and irresistible amalgam. Biblical allusions and Jewish history are transformed into part of the poet’s personal history. The poem hint and allude to Israel’s conflict, the Bible, and history, but they aren’t really political poems, focusing on the personal and intimate self-reflections of the poet. He explore topics such as his relationship to his parents, his past lovers and love life, his children, his relationship to Israel, Jewish history, God, and the Bible.

This is my favorite collection of Amachai's poems. They are simply delightful. The book offers a wide variety of his work--the perfect introduction to his work.
