Ok, so I'm hooked. I knew when I started this book that it most likely wasn't going to be the end of the series and there isn't yet a third or fourth book (depending on whether you count the prequel short story as a book or not). So I was able to console myself when I got to the last page and there was no where else to go. I read that the next book, Free Falling Crimson I think it will be called, should be out later in the year. I sure hope so. I want more. The problem is I bet it's not the end either. I'm LOVING this series, but it's starting to feel like on of those that just goes on forever. I sure hope not. I mourn series when they end, but it's so much harder when they don't have the grace to die. Not that I'm saying that's the case here! I'm just mean, as much as I love the characters and storyline, I hope there is a conclusion (happily ever after or otherwise) at some point. There I've aired my nagging fear. Moving on.

Deadly Shades of Gold keeps the heat high, just like in [b:Altered States|13704772|Altered States (Altered States Prequel)|Laura Harner|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1338242117s/13704772.jpg|19337276] and [b:Deep Blues Goodbye|15830677|Deep Blues Goodbye (Altered States, #1)|Laura Harner|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1345085490s/15830677.jpg|21565439]. I love how all of the characters are finding their given roles...and partners. There is a definite sense that people will be pairing off soon. Travis seems to have come to terms with his condition, but is still struggling to accept himself. Sam seems to be doing well, but then he has a lot more support. Danny is like a loveable BFF and Russ/Jet are just sexy as hell all by themselves...even more so with Sam between them. Wow! The witty banter kept me laughing and there is enough mystery here to keep me guessing. I love that there are still aspects to the plot that haven't been revealed yet. What is du Champ's plan B for example (though he's completely right. You never know when you might need an army. Awesome.) What is so special about Travis and Sam? Is there something special about them? I've been baited and still have questions, but I'm not feeling denied yet. This is a balancing act for an author, but Harner and Webb pull it off masterfully. I can't wait for the next instalment. I'd buy it now if it was out.
