I wanted to like this more--I usually really enjoy cat themed cozy mysteries--but the "heroine," Nora, ruined it for me. She spent the entire book snooping and poking her nose where it didn't belong...which usually, whatever, that is kind of the point of a cozy mystery...but the thing was, whenever law enforcement called her out on it, she LIED and/or GOT DEFENSIVE about it. She freaking withheld evidence from them!! And I got so tired of reading "I stuck my hands on my hips"/"I narrowed my eyes"/how upset Nora got whenever the police dared to warn her against investigating something that was none of her business. And then she would start whining about how the police wanted her to share what info she'd found with them, but didn't want to share anything they'd found with her...umm, DUH! That is because it *is* THEIR business, it is NOT YOURS! You own a deli. Even if you are working on revamping your career as an investigative crime reporter, the police are not obligated to share their findings with you.
So the mystery was interesting, and I really enjoyed the cat, Nick, but Nora was awful. Like I said, I know it is very common in a cozy mystery for the protagonist solving the crime to not be in law enforcement, but her attitude killed it. She shouldn't have been angry that the police didn't want her snooping, and she shouldn't have lied to them and withheld evidence.

I really don't know why I kept reading this book. It's filled with annoying inaccuracies. I should have quit when the author kept refering to the narrator as a "true crime" reporter. That's not a thing. What would the alternative be? A fiction crime "reporter"? Um. No. That, plus all the typos and the completely unbelieveable story made it pointless. The storyline, itself, was weak, weak, weak! I guess I just kept hoping for it to turn around. To no avail. I've been trying to finish it for weeks, but I kept falling asleep every few paragraphs. I finally finished it by skimming my way through the last chapter and the epilogue (which was just as implausible as the rest of it). One big YAWN!

This book is totally ridiculous. She is suppose to be an award winning crime reporter that apparently has no idea how to interact with the police or how to "investigate" . She doesn't even research anything until the end of the book. I would say the author has no idea what a reporter actually does. And she has this "award winning crime" reporter falls apart next to a handsome man.
