I can somehow relate to Kyra's feelings when she was forced to marry someone she doesn't like. 3 stars only because the ending was lacking.

This is a very gripping story that really pulled me in. I was extremely concerned for Kyra through the whole book and just wanted her to be able to get out. That ending though made me realize it wouldn't be easy and that just because she can get out doesn't mean the end of her problems. I really felt sad about Patrick. I don't know that he knew what he was getting himself into and it turned out horribly for him. What I didn't really think about was that if Kyra did escape she would have to do it without her family and that there would be the possibility of never seeing her family again. I can't imagine having to do that, and go through anything she went through. I don't think I could have been that strong. Still it was a great story and well told. Definitely worth a read, and it's pretty quick and easy too.

The Chosen One crept up on me. For the first 150 (or so) pages I didn't think much of it. It was just a book to pass the time while I was home sick. The more it went on, the more intense and good it became. The end had me almost in tears and wondering where the next chapter was.

All I can say is I remember enjoying this book a lot more in middle school. :’)

+ very sympathetic main character, the voice of a 13-year old was captured very well, I didn't want anything bad happening to her
+ very intense writing style
+ I have never read any book about the topic poligamy = refreshing
- the way Kyra thinks sometimes was a little too mature for a 13-year old, too responsible... but maybe growing up in such a community makes you very mature at 13
- the end is rather open... I can't believe she didn't go straight back (with the help of the police) to get her family out of there
- the pink font of the cover title is so unsuitable
