A tale of two men who in spite of a chasm of differences in their traditions both love the same woman and find that once they meet, the lives they once knew would never be the same.

All James Tucker Upchurch III wants to do is marry his fiancée Shannon, right after he earns his summer credits on a Central American archeological dig and graduates. A son of the Mayan God of Death, Semris II is a centuries old demon, feeling stifled by the monotonous duty that represents his life. Dreaming of what lies beyond the lush tropical paradise he calls home, he knows that he’s unlikely to experience it. The demons, captive in this world for the last five thousand years, have ruled over the people of Nikte-Uaxac, and while the outside world ebbs and flows with change, their civilization is so insulated, it’s as if they’re frozen in time. That is, until outsiders from the present day stumble upon and kidnap the Mayans most precious treasure – the emperor himself.

Tuck and Semris find themselves unlikely allies and friends while working to free the demon and return him to his own people. In the process of his escape, Semris discovers the one thing that can alleviate the boredom in his life – the love of one special, mortal woman,

Certainly Tuck never intended to lose Shannon to Semris, but even he has to admit when their two worlds once again collide, nothing they once knew will ever be the same.

This is the first piece I’ve read from Tony-Paul de Vissage, and I have to say it was one of the best books I’ve picked up in a long time. Dark God Descending is rife with thrilling suspense - the author successfully crafts a tale that has a unique paranormal spin on Mayan history. If that wasn’t enough to capture my interest, he throws in some romance that is by no means predictable and presents a well- rounded story I found difficult to put down.

The richly complex characters in Dark God gave me no other option than to care about, and root for them; I found myself holding my breath at several points because I was that completely captivated by the plot. Whether you’re a fan of historical thrillers, romance or the paranormal, I think you’ll agree that Dark God Descending by Tony-Paul de Vissage is a riveting, heart pounding tale that you’ll want to read again and again!
