this was my favorite book I’ve read this year; a little girl with a rough home life gets sent to live w her aunt and her wife and learns about love and life and herself and feeling safe by learning how to bake guided by the great british baking show it made me laugh it made me cry I’m going to get a physical copy so that everyone I know can read it

This was a super charming and really good read, despite being rather cheesy. I really do wish we see more of Suzanne and Shell, ah well. Also wished Cady was more overwhelmed over, well, everything. That's all the negative things I can say tho, it's just a super cute, charming, and warm read.

one of my best friends asked me to read this bc its her fav book from her childhood. it was a super fun and light read, its been a while since ive read something so lighthearted and “youthful” feeling! i also read it in one sitting which is always a plus

I really wanted to like this, and on the surface, I did, but I just couldn't make it through. After two months of it kicking around my house, it's time to give up and return it to the library.

I enjoyed this book a lot. It reminds me of All You Knead Is Love by Tanya Guerrero. There was a cat and two dogs, some well written and understandable characters, and, of course, a lot of baking. That is all the makings of a good book for me! It was also a little bit sad sometimes, but not depressing and it felt sweet. It was perfectly the kind of book that I was in the mood to read. I would definitely recommend this! I also enjoyed the importance of The Great British Bake Off as it is a show that I love to watch as well.

If I could do 3.5 stars I would. I think this is a pretty well written novel. The characters are believable and I think the author does a great job portraying the internal turmoil a young girl in Cady’s position would have. Also, the recipes included in the back sound scrumptious!
The less than 5 star rating comes because I struggle when books have obvious political or social agendas and are directed at middle grade children. This is a book I would want to read in a middle grade book club setting or with my child instead of handing it to them to read solo. I think it would spark a lot of excellent discussions on a variety of topics.
The books tackles the foster system, homelessness, alcoholism, parental neglect, drug abuse, death of a parent, family alienation, homosexuality, illegal immigrant issues, and kids coming to the aid of the adults’ debt collecting/overdue accounts. It’s just a lot of big issues all in one middle grade book.
