Overall, the writing is well paced and deeply engaging and I’m looking forward to reading more from the author.
The romance half of the plot was great, 4.5 stars on its own. The murder mystery part though was more like 3 stars. It was passable, with an intriguing beginningbut the glaringly obvious killer and the goofy way the up-to-this-point thoughtful cop blazed right past the very obvious red flags and literal warnings to go to the meeting… very lackluster. I could have overlooked some of it but going far enough with the murder attempt to practically ruin their relationship just as it started… I didn’t enjoy that sad ending. But I want to keep reading, so that probably says a lot.

It was a little too slow for my taste but you felt the tension so well! My heart ached every time there was a new victim and I liked how the build up to the climax felt like watching a train wreck in a good way. Like you knew what was about to happen before the characters but were helpless to stop the events.
I wish we had gotten a little more resolution before the book ended and I know we get more during the second book but I just would’ve preferred a little more of a padded landing.
