the main character, Tasia, had great character development and a very solid character arc. unfortunately, she was one of very few, if not the only, character to be fleshed out. many of the characters felt very flat to me, very stereotyped, lacking complexity and depth. the last 20% of the book was my favorite. I think had the politics and fantasy elements been more fleshed out and prominent throughout the entire book, and not saved for the ending, I would have enjoyed it more

My only complaint is that this book was really long and often dragged a bit in places where things just weren't really happening. It's the kind of book you read over a long period of time, because it's enjoyable, but there isn't enough action to keep you hooked until the last few chapters (which I absolutely sped through).

Overall tho, I really enjoyed it! I didn't expect to grow to love Joslyn as a character as much as I did, or
hate Mylla haha
. The main character Tasia was well written, and you really see her grow from a teenage girl into a leader by the end of the book.

A fun read about a queer princess who struggles with her future and the future of her father's empire. Not always well written, but very enjoyable.
