If you love George Saunders, try Jamie Quatro. This book is crazy, smart, beautiful, and haunting.

As a reluctant short story reader, I am a huge fan of short story collections when the stories are obviously connected and this is a great example. It is not, however, light reading. A couple of these stories are so wickedly twisty I was both cringing and smiling. Ultimately, this is Jocelyn's story and the author does a brilliant job of writing a multifaceted character you will want to befriend, take care of, and shun. You may not love this book, as I did, but you will feel something.

Some really beautiful writing. Stories just short enough to keep you wanting more. Faith and infidelity are the constant themes.

These are bizarre and unrealistic yet somehow incredibly lifelike stories. They're compelling and weird and fascinating. The kind of thing that should be read twice, years apart, and will feel like a different book entirely.

some of this I liked (esp the religious stuff and the very honest but great turns of phrase) but I feel like my main takeaway being that this woman is obsessed with her phone sex affair ain't it

I normally don't do short stories but some of these are magnificent. Some were a bit too out there for me but overall an excellent book. Don't be deceived by the slight nature of the book, these stories pack an emotional punch.

These stories are on varied subjects- infidelity, religion, cancer, running. Some are wonderfully dark, and give a small thrill as characters from earlier stories wander in and out. Received as part of a Goodreads Giveaway.

Some of the stories are trippy and surreal, but most are about death and love. I liked the former more than the latter. The marathon was by far my favorite - there was something very LeGuin about it that I enjoyed.

I loved this book! Time and time again, these stories set my brain on fire. They changed the way I see the world. That's maybe the biggest compliment I can give--they changed the way I see the world. Jamie Quatro is a major talent.
