This is a novella about Mac and Hudson's backstory. About when they found and lost love in one weekend. I found the story utterly heartbreaking. For me the only saving grace was that although there is no happy ending, there is Captain Heartbreaker to follow which continues their story.

This novella was the perfect introduction to the friendship and romance between Mac and Hudson and it was so bittersweet but I loved every moment of it! Mac has always been my favourite Haven sister since we're introduced to her in [b:Second Chance Charmer|39311269|Second Chance Charmer (Havenbrook, #1)|Brighton Walsh|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1522253506l/39311269._SY75_.jpg|59437736] and I've been so eager to see who it is that has left her heartbroken all this time. Mac and Hudson have been best friends forever and have done practically everything together, and they're supposed to continue doing all the things together in college until Hudson shares some news that throws a wrench in all their plans. They have unspoken feelings for each other but after Hudson's big secret is revealed, all bets are off and they finally confess their feelings. Walsh creates such a delicious tension between these two and when they finally get together, the steamy was set-the-Kindle-on-fire hot!

I'm reading Captain Heartbreaker now and the way the story is set up made me wonder if we had a prequel novella or something, and we did!

This gave me more insight on Mac and Hudson now (Captain Heartbreaker is set 10 years after this one) and I can't wait to dive back into Captain Heartbreaker.

I just love this whole series. Southern families and genteel accents and no overindexing on anything. Will definitely read the next novel!

Aw, I really enjoyed this! I wasn't sure how it was gonna end, though I knew it wouldn't be with an HEA, not after reading the previous books and knowing it was just kind of like a prequel novella. But I so desperately want a full book with Mac and Hudson finding their way back to a life they should have gotten in the beginning. I love the two of them--fiercely stubborn individuals who love adventure and who are always up for a challenge, who are loyal to those they care about even when they have to make decisions that will leave them unhappy--and I love them together. And man, I just can't leave this quiet little southern town and all its quirks and people!
