The dialogue was poor and diction too convoluted for the r/thathappened storylines encounter in the first quarter of the novel.

This book is absolutely fine. I wanted to like it a lot more than I did. Absolutely baffling decision to have the father be the narrator. He's borderline a non-character and the book would be far more interesting if Eleanor or Gwen were the main characters.
I have a lot more to say but I came from a book club so my thoughts are exhausted.
Some of the naming conventions can be really grating.
Props to the story for being dystopian while lighthearted tho.

I don’t know why but I always come back to dystopian or fantasy baseball novels! Even though I only played the game for two seasons and never hit the ball once I feel such a kinship to the game and I think that there is a special place in the American zeitgeist for weird books about baseball and this is no exception.
I loved the storyline here and the mashup of ai and automation felt vaguely….foreboding. Don’t need Aunt Nettie knowing all my secrets. The perspective shift felt interesting to me and I was engaged through. A perfect summer read for the train or between innings.

I tried to get into this. I love the world the author created. I had trouble with her characters that didn’t seem to mesh. Oh, and the baseball hook was weak.
