This was a fascinating read. I find it incredible how vibrant these stories still are to a modern reader. It felt like walking through a fairytale (and, at times, through some very long lists of names).

The four branches of the Mabinogi were my favourites.

They're wild stories, but that's kind of what I expect from this type of story? And it's engaging and entertaining.

The translator's notes are really helpful. Somehow knowing a few words of Welsh is also helpful, in that I could sometimes guess what the note was going to be about before checking it? But when I say "a few words" I really do only mean a few words, and it would have been totally fine without that.

The Welsh folklore was enjoyable, however the writing style was difficult to digest, and I suspect it would be far more enthralling if listened to in Welsh.

I feel like if I had understood the book better, I would've given it a better review. Is probably a much better read in Welsh.

Rather difficult to even comprehend. My edition had footnotes where the translator was frequently at a loss as to what was even meant certain sentences.

I have this very odd connection with Wales that I cannot rationalize or account for, especially since I have only been there once, and that was more than 20 years ago. All I can put it down to is I might have some Welsh ancestry I don't know about.

I've been wanting to read The Mabinogion for a long time. What is it? Its a corpus of Welsh Mythology, that's what! It is like Beowulf and the Arthurian legends rolled into one.

It is strange, bizzare, sometimes a little disturbing but still a joy to read. A unique set of stories from a unique country.
